"She who leaves a trail of glitter is never forgotten"
- Katherine Noel Valentine Brosnahan Spade
Also known as Kate Spade, who indeed lived up to this quote.
The mastermind behind the apparel brand, which was also her namesake, Kate Spade, began in the retail industry as an employee in the accessories department.
While there, she met her future husband, Andy Spade.
She eventually left her job as "Senior Fashion Editor/Head of Accessories" at Mademoiselle to start up a company with (then boyfriend), Andy Spade, specifically to cater to a niche market of upscale bags at reasonable costs.
From their start in women's bags, they expanded into a line that designed everything to accessorize a woman from head to toe. And, like the quote above, much of her line incorporated glitter in some form, (small sample shown below).
After selling her share of the Kate Spade brand to the Neiman Marcus Group in 2006, she took a step away from the fashion and business world to raise her daughter, Frances Beatrix, born in 2005.
In 2016, Kate legally changed her name to Kate Valentine Spade and then launched a new luxury fashion brand, Frances Valentine. She continued to run the company until her passing in June 2018.
She received numerous awards in her lifetime, most notably being inducted into the Entrepreneur Hall of Fame at the Henry W. Bloch School of Management, as well as being named one of the Most Creative People in Business by Fast Company.
Kate Valentine Spade will be remembered for the brilliant streak of glitter she created and infused into the fashion accessory world.

Accessorize creatively. A simple way to achieve the look of a tie neck blouse with what may already be in your closet is to tie a thin scarf in a loose bow around your neck over a crewneck sweater.
